BUDGET PLANNING for 2007-2008

How do parents financially support the schools?
The parents of the Larkspur School District support the schools through the volunteer fundraising efforts of the nonprofit Corte Madera Larkspur (CML) Schools Foundation and the Neil Cummins and Hall PTAs. The CML Schools Foundation started 24 years ago by raising a modest sum that has since increased to $500,000, or approximately 5% of our adopted revenue budget, for the current school year. Funds raised by the PTAs have been used to pay for a number of improvements, including a play structure, a school tile mural, and shade awnings at Neil Cummins. In addition, PTA funds provide field trips, assembly programs, and additional classroom supplies for Neil Cummins and Hall.

How do your bond dollars support the schools?
On June 6, 2000, the voters of the Larkspur School District approved a facilities bond in the amount of $21.7 million. Bond dollars can only be used for capital improvements and cannot be used for program purposes. Improvements made at the Neil Cummins and Hall campuses included new libraries, computer labs, gyms, learning centers for special education students, school offices, classroom lighting and heating systems and a new athletic field for Hall. The Neil Cummins gym was jointly financed by the Town of Corte Madera. The Hall gym and playfield were jointly financed by the City of Larkspur with additional financial support from the Marin Community Foundation.
