Dr. Valerie Pitts accepted the position as Superintendent for the Larkspur-Corte Madera School District in July, 2005. Valerie came to us as an experienced school administrator, having served as a Principal at elementary, middle and high school levels. Her central office experience includes regional projects and Education Services Director. She spent 20 years in districts in Monterey and Santa Cruz counties.
Valerie was born and raised in Larkspur and attended Larkspur schools including Hall Middle and Redwood High School, where she graduated at the top of her class. She taught for eight years at San Rafael High School before moving into administration. Valerie has spent her entire professional career in public education and is passionate about inclusion, equity, high standards, engaging curriculum and continuous improvement. Valerie values participation and open communication with the community, staff, students and parents. Her focus is on excellence!
Valerie has an earned Doctorate in Education with an emphasis in Organizational Leadership. Her Master’s degree and three credentials were earned from Bay Area universities. She is the proud mother of four children and she enjoys hiking, skiing and the outdoors with them.
